About Elizabeth Outlaw
“I was not taking longer because I had fewer ideas. I was taking longer because I could see fifteen creative paths to the answer.”
A label that missed the whole story
In 1986, Elizabeth Outlaw was identified as having a specific learning disability, or SLD. One of the behaviors used to interpret her learning was the time she took to answer questions. From the outside, a delayed response could be treated as evidence that she was struggling to understand.
Her lived experience felt very different. Elizabeth was not sitting with an empty mind. She was considering many possibilities—sometimes imagining as many as fifteen creative ways to reach the right answer. The system measured the delay, but it did not see the depth, exploration, and divergent thinking happening inside that time.
From personal experience to a larger question
Elizabeth’s story does not mean every SLD identification is wrong, or that response time has only one explanation. It shows why educational decisions should be made carefully, with context, multiple forms of evidence, qualified professional judgment, and meaningful input from students and families.
Although education has changed since 1986, schools can still rely on limited signals, fragmented records, and labels that may not capture the full learning process. Elizabeth founded Global School OS to explore a better question: How might schools recognize learning conditions and creative strengths without reducing a student to a single score, delay, or category?
Why Global School OS exists
The proposed Creative Discovery System is inspired by the belief that education should look for persistence, self-correction, multi-path exploration, pattern recognition, and synthesis. Its purpose is not to diagnose students or replace educators. It is envisioned as a governed support system that may help authorized professionals notice evidence, ask better questions, and make more informed instructional decisions.
That mission is deeply personal: build infrastructure that protects students while giving educators a fuller, more respectful view of how each learner approaches a challenge.
Building with purpose
Elizabeth Outlaw is the CEO & Co-Founder of Global School OS, an early-stage, patent-pending K–12 governance concept and a finalist in the 2026 Most Fundable Companies® competition. She is seeking conversations with educators, districts, advisors, researchers, and implementation partners who want to explore responsible approaches to learning evidence and AI governance.
